Jurie Ferreira
(Singer/Actor/Presenter)

Known as "Oom Jurie", this gifted gentleman began his singing career in 1940.  He acted in various Afrikaans films during the 1950's and 1960's.  During the 1950's, he presented a musical program on the Afrikaans Radio Service called "Koffiehuis Konsert", with Gert Van Den Berg as the announcer, and featuring Nico Carstens (piano accordion) and Hendrik Susan (violin) as the band leaders.  In the 1960's, he joined the Entertainment Group of the South African Defense Force.  He entertained the troops for many years until he retired from service in the 1970's.  During his service, he held the rank of Sergeant Major, yet he was most often addressed by all who met him as "Oom Jurie" with the greatest of respect and genuine admiration for his good character and his warm, friendly nature, as well as for his many impressive talents.
