| Welcome to the "CHUNKY RIPPLE AFGHAN" webpage of The Pumamouse Website. |
The following original crochet pattern is provided for your possible use with best wishes for many happy hours of handiwork and success from The Pumamouse (MaryAnne). MATERIALS: “Phentex” or other brand Chunky Yarn 27 oz Main Color (Light) 24 oz Color “A” (Medium) 24 oz Color “B” (Dark) Hook “I” (Or "J" if your work is very tight.) Chain 209 with Color A. Turn. Skip one chain, *9 SC, 3 SC in next chain, SC 9, skip next two chains. Repeat from * across to end. DO NOT CHAIN ONE!!! Turn. NOTE: THIS ENTIRE AFGHAN IS WORKED IN SINGLE CROCHET, BUT WORKING IN BACK LOOPS ONLY!!! THIS CREATES THE “RIDGE STITCH” MOST OFTEN SEEN IN RIPPLE AFGHANS, WHICH ADDS DIMENSION TO THE FINISHED PIECE. Note: 3 oz should make 8.5 rows. There should be 10 ripples across, and 9 SC stitches on each side of each ripple. Color pattern is as follows: 10 Rows Color A, 10 Rows Main Color, 10 Rows Color B 10 Rows Color A, 10 Rows Main Color, 10 Rows Color B 10 Rows Color A, 10 Rows Main Color, 10 Rows Color B 4 Rows Color A, 4 Rows Main Color, 4 Rows Color B 10 Rows Main Color (THIS IS CENTER OF AFGHAN) 4 Rows Color B, 4 Rows Main Color, 4 Rows Color A 10 Rows Color B, 10 Rows Main Color, 10 Rows Color A 10 Rows Color B, 10 Rows Main Color, 10 Rows Color A 10 Rows Color B, 10 Rows Main Color, 10 Rows Color A (214 Rows total.) Note: Colors are always changed along what will be the right edge when afghan is finished and you are looking at the right side of the work. You can tell that you are looking at the right side of the afghan because the beginning tail of yarn will be at the lower left corner, and the ending tail will be at the upper right corner. Note: When making this afghan, I do not chain one stitch at the end of each row to turn, but doing so might cause the afghan to lay flatter when finished, especially if your work is very tight. Finished Size: 42” x 84” Note: To make this same afghan for use on a double/queen bed, an estimate would be to make it twice as wide, (20 ripples), and perhaps half again as long...maybe an extra 100 Rows. To do this, you would need approximately 69 oz of the Main Color, and 60 oz each of Color “A” and Color “B”. Although I have never tried this project, I suspect the finished size of such an afghan would be approximately 84” x 123”. I hope that these instructions might be useful to you. Good luck!
