| Welcome to the "GRANDMA ANGELA'S LOVE KNOT" webpage of The Pumamouse Website. |
| My Grandma Angela developed this unique crochet stitch. There are hundreds of intricate crochet stitches illustrated in crochet pattern books, some of which are called "love knot" stitches, but my Grandma Angela's original creation is still one of the prettiest stitches I have ever seen. GRANDMA ANGELA'S LOVE KNOT Foundation Row: Chain the desired length in a multiple of 6. Turn. Row 1: *Skip the first 2 chain stitches, and SC in the third chain from hook. Pull up the yarn to be loose and Chain 1. SC into the bottom of the Chain 1 stitch which you just made to create the "love knot". Repeat from * across, ending with a SC in the last Chain stitch. Chain 3, Turn. Row 2: Skip the first 3 stitches (the 3 turning chain stitches and the 1 SC stitch which was the last SC of the previous row), and SC into the fourth stitch (the first big bumpy stitch). Continue in the established pattern, ending each row with a SC stitch in the third Chain stitch of the turning Chain 3 stitches. GRANDMA ANGELA'S LOVE KNOT VARIATION This variation makes bigger holes, and it is not nearly as pretty as the original. However, it is interesting when used in combination with the original, and so I am including it here. The stitch is basically worked the same as the original stitch. The only change is that you use a double crochet stitch instead of a single crochet stitch when working into the previous row. Foundation Row: Chain the desired length in a multiple of 6. Turn. Row 1: *Skip the first 2 chain stitches, and DC in the third chain from hook. Pull up the yarn to be loose and Chain 1. SC into the bottom of the Chain 1 stitch which you just made to create the "love knot". Repeat from * across, ending with a DC in the last Chain stitch. Chain 3, Turn. Row 2: Skip the first 3 stitches (the 3 turning chain stitches and the 1 DC stitch which was the last DC of the previous row), and DC into the fourth stitch (the first big bumpy stitch). Continue in the established pattern, ending each row with a DC stitch in the third Chain stitch of the turning Chain 3 stitches. The Pumamouse (MaryAnne) March 2004 |
