Welcome to the "MY COOKIE DOUGH AFGHAN"
webpage of The Pumamouse Website.
MATERIALS:
42 oz "Red Heart" brand "Buff Fleck" 4 ply worsted weight yarn.  (Since this color is sold in 6 oz "Super Saver" skeins, you will need 7 of them.)
"H" Hook

Whenever you are working an afghan, it is preferable to tie on the next skein of yarn at the edge of a row, instead of in the center of a row.  This might seem like a waste of yarn, but in truth it is not, since the end pieces of yarn that are too short to create a full row of stitches may be set aside and used to create the fringe.  You will need to cut 300 pieces of yarn, 9" each, to be used as the fringe for this afghan.  Please keep this in mind as you work the body of the afghan and save those end pieces of yarn that are too short to create a full row of stitches, so that they may be cut and used for the fringe.

Now, here comes the ridiculously simple "pattern".  (Don't blink or you might miss it!)

Foundation Row:  Chain 151, Turn.

Row 1:  SC 150, Chain 2, Turn.

Row 2:  HDC 150, Chain 2, Turn.

Repeat Row 2 until you have used all of the yarn except for the amount needed to cut 300  9" long pieces for fringe.  (The end scraps which you saved from each of the first 6 skeins might be enough, but if not, you will have to use part of the last skein for the fringe.)

According to my scribbled notes, the finished size of this afghan is approximately 48" x 58".  This is a perfect size for use during cookie consumption…big enough to be cozy, but not so long that it gets in the way while you are nibbling.

The beauty of this afghan lies in its simplicity.  However, if you think the pattern is too uneventful, I can offer a suggestion that might spice it up.  As everyone knows, chocolate chip cookies and milk go very well together.  So, alternating stripes worked with "Buff Fleck" yarn, which resembles the color of raw chocolate chip cookie dough, and stripes worked with "Aran Fleck" yarn, which resembles the color of milk that has been used for dunking chocolate chip cookies, might prove to be the perfect combination!

Composing these instructions has made me hungry!  If nothing else, I hope this pattern may have tempted your appetite for more needlework related webpages in the future, and perhaps more recipe related webpages, as well.

As always, I wish you many happy hours of handiwork, and the best of luck for success!  Thank you for your interest.

THE "PUMAMOUSE OBSERVATIONS" SECTION
What could possibly be better than a gift of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies?  How about those cookies plus a cozy crocheted afghan that is colored sort of like raw cookie dough, under which the lucky recipient could snuggle while munching on the tasty treats?  The pleasure and warmth of the afghan would probably last much longer than that of the cookies, and yet it would probably inspire delicious memories of the cookies even long after the last crumbs were gone!

This is the idea which struck me as soon as I discovered a unique color of "Red Heart" brand 4 ply worsted weight yarn called "Buff Fleck".  The yarn is basically a buff color, but there are "flecks" of brown and black and gray colored "nubbies" randomly scattered throughout.  I know the yarn was probably developed to resemble the tweedy homespun yarns which one often sees worked into thick cable stitch sweaters.  But, I confess, upon seeing the color, I immediately thought of raw chocolate chip cookie dough.  Okay, maybe I am an incurable chocoholic, but still, I was inspired to create an afghan using this unique color of yarn simple so that I could send it, along with a freshly baked batch of cookies, to a friend as a special gift.

I regret that I did not pause long enough to take a photograph of the finished afghan because I was in such a hurry to send it, along with the cookies, as soon as it was completed.  However, I did scribble a pattern.  I actually feel guilty calling it a pattern, since the entire afghan is worked in simple half double crochet stitches (HDC).  But, that is the beauty of finding a yarn that has "character".  You need not work it with fancy stitches for the finished afghan to look wonderfully intricate in design.

Although I do not have a photo of the finished afghan to include here, I have crocheted a sample square of the pattern using the "Buff Fleck" color yarn, and I have included a photo of the sample square, which should suffice to give you an idea of how the finished afghan appears.

You do not have to be a culinary wizard to bake chocolate cookies, and you do not have to be a crochet wizard to create this afghan, but in my opinion, both are extremely yummy!
