| Welcome to the "XXX SHOCKING REVELATIONS" webpage of The Pumamouse Website. |
| As the owner and "The Webmoustress" of The Pumamouse Website, I am able to request and receive statistical reports about the traffic (activity) which this website receives. By viewing these reports, I am able to determine exactly which webpages are the most popular with website visitors by comparison. I am very pleased to know that The Pumamouse Website is being visited regularly by literally thousands of individuals each month. And, I am thrilled to know that there is steady interest in the Needlework subsection. However, as I began monitoring the reports more closely, I was somewhat shocked by the fact when I learned that the crochet related webpages of The Pumamouse Website were consistently the most popular among website visitors. I will be the first to admit that my original crochet patterns are very basic in design. And so, I was somewhat overwhelmed by their apparent popularity, because I honestly did not think that I had created anything so unique as to warrant the attention which the webpages were routinely receiving every month. At first, I thought perhaps the popularity of the crochet webpages was caused by a posting of The Pumamouse Website address on another craft related website's message board somewhere. Some website visitors have kindly written to say that they found The Pumamouse Website through such a reference. However, it seemed to me that the traffic numbers in the statistic reports were too high for them to have been generated solely by an occasional mention on a message board. In fact, the numbers suggested that there must be another source of reference somewhere which was inspiring interest in the crochet webpages, and I thought it might possibly even a printed reference, such as a recommendation in a craft newsletter or crochet magazine. I must reiterate that I was thrilled by the apparent popularity of the Needlework subsection, but still, it made no sense to me that it should be so popular, especially since The Pumamouse Website contains highly diversified subjects, not solely needlework, and there are so many other purely craft related websites available out there in cyberspace. Admittedly, I was completely baffled by this mystery. And so, I began searching for answers. I thought I was prepared for anything, and yet, I never anticipated the truth. Indeed, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I learned the answer, and I am still staggered by what I can only term a most shocking revelation. Apparently, it is the nasty practice of some website owners/designers to include certain popular words or phrases as "keywords" in their website's construction. By doing so, these tricksters are able to increase their website's visibility on search engines. The way the ruse works is that the search engine sees the popular word or phrase which is included as "keywords" in the hidden code of a website, and the search engine automatically assumes the content of the website is related to those keywords. As a result, when an unsuspecting individual uses a search engine and types in those same particular words or phrases to search for related websites, among the list of websites which genuinely feature references to that particular topic, there will also be those unrelated websites that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic, simply because the nasty webmasters who constructed them purposefully included certain popular words or phrases as keywords, performing this act of willful deception solely to mislead the search engines, and thereby the general public. This is how some unscrupulous website owners/designers are able to generate traffic for their websites, under false pretenses. At best, they are parasitic leeches who benefit from the popularity of well established websites and the innocence/ignorance of the uninformed Internet surfer. Well, I deeply regret the fact that The Pumamouse Website is the victim of this form of misuse and deception. I can hardly believe it, despite the evidence, but please allow me to explain. The fact is, there is a pornographic website which has been constructed by a company based in Florida, and which uses the popular words "crochet granny square afghan" as its keywords. It seems that it also uses my name "pumamouse" somewhere in its hidden coding. Needless to say, it is doing so without my consent or authorization. As a result, whenever someone uses a search engine, such as "Google", if they search the Internet using the words "pumamouse" and "crochet", one of the websites which they will see displayed for their consideration is a pornographic website, the name of which I will not include here, because it is rather explicit. Are you as shocked as I was? Take a deep breath, and let me tell you a few more of my long overdue revelations. For the record, I believe in personal freedoms, such as freedom of speech and freedom of expression. I do not condemn anyone for their interest in pornography. However, I do condemn those who routinely misuse unrelated words as keywords to promote it. The information which I discovered about the misuse of keywords by the pornographic website still did not answer my question. Since the other website is a completely separate website, not linked in any way, any traffic it received through the search engines should not increase the traffic for The Pumamouse Website. At least, that was my first thought. Then, slowly, it finally occurred to me what was truly happening. Are you ready for this? Trust me, you are not, but please read on. It is my firm and logically substantiated belief that the crochet related webpages of The Pumamouse Website are being visited not only by those website guests who are interested in Needlework, but also by some of those who have found the reference to it through the non-related pornographic website which misleadingly uses the keywords "crochet granny square afghan". This would certainly account for the otherwise inexplicable popularity of the crochet related webpages. Simply put, some people are coming to The Pumamouse Website after they have finished going and coming at the pornographic website, probably just for the sake of their curiosity, or perhaps in the hope of finding more pornography. I can easily imagine the groans of disappointment which are emitted worldwide by those who venture here from the pornographic website in search of further sexual stimulation, only to find references to crochet patterns. In truth, as my mind fully grasped these conclusions, I did not know whether to cry or laugh. I suppose turnabout is fair play, and ironically, in this case, it seems to be the result of foreplay. Crochet vs Crotch – it is just too ridiculous. My first impulse was to pursue a resolution to this matter legally. After all, I do not wish for my name to be associated with or used to promote pornography, and I believe the law is on my side in this matter, especially since The Pumamouse Website was established long before the creation of the pornographic website. Legal recourse might be a lengthy process. Meanwhile, I have written this essay to inform and educate all of my website guests, those who have arrived here in search of crochet patterns, and those who have arrived here by a thoroughly shocking and yet somewhat comical twist of fate. I want the world and especially my website visitors to know that The Pumamouse is in no way affiliated or associated with any pornographic website. It is my sincere hope that my candid explanation of the truth regarding the use and the unfortunate misuse of keywords might serve to eliminate any further confusion. For those of you who are here in search of basic crochet patterns, you have found them, and I hope they will stimulate your creativity and imagination. For those of you who are here in search of a different form of stimulation, I invite you browse through the various sections of The Pumamouse Website. Although there is currently no pornographic material feature, (and there never will be), you might find something else that interests you. You might even wish to learn how to crochet. My guess is, you could probably use a new hobby or two to keep your mind and hands occupied. Think about it. As always, I welcome your comments. Thank you for your consideration.
