THE ABC SHOW RETURNS

Yes, once again it's A.B.C. SHOW time, as Radio South Africa's satirical comedy half-hour returns to the English Radio Service at 7:45 p.m.

Now going into their fourth series of alphabetical investigations, writers Donald Monat and June Dixon have lined up an intriguing flock of sitting ducks, as they take aim at such diverse subjects as the recruiting of Congo mercenaries, elocution lessons for railway-station announcers, epic South African war films, laundries, strip-tease, hire-purchase, and the ABC SHOW itself.

On hand to interpret this cornucopia of characters is the traditional team of Pip Freedman, Gordon van Rooyen, and the authors themselves.

And to accent the crotchets and quavers, Gerry Bosman leads the full Variety Orchestra into that familiar signature tune.

Striking a new vocal note, the ABC SHOW introduces the charming, blonde songstress, Claire Wooller - backed by the swinging sound of the Cool Six.

In this new series, the ABC SHOW presents each week a live guest spot, featuring a distinguished performer or personality from the world of show business - and to open the series on Tuesday, our guest star is that world-famous British comedian and raconteur - Alfred Marks.

Future editions will bring to the microphone many other well-known artists - including Colin Campbell, Nolan Ranger, Albie Louw, and the lovely star of "My Fair Lady", Bunty Turner.

So, if your taste runs to sophisticated comedy, melodious music and lively entertainment, make a date to brush up your alphabet every Tuesday night with the ABC SHOW.
