NEW PRODUCTIONS (Introduction)
"SAMSON AND DELILAH"

After the success of the previous new play on Vintage Radio, "A Corporate Star", a second new play, "Samson And Delilah", was commissioned.  This play was written by Dorothy Carter, and adapted for radio by Leslie Smith.

Springbok Radio veteran producer, Henry Diffenthal of Olympia Recording Studios in Durban, was set the task to bring this story to life.  The only outline he got was that the play must include the veteran actor Roger Service because the writer wished Roger to be in the play.

Henry obliged and brought not only Roger Service back to perform in this drama, but other famous Springbok Radio veterans, too.

The cast included:
The following essay and profiles were kindly written and provided for inclusion on The Pumamouse Website by Frans Erasmus.

With a cast like this and a producer in the caliber of Henry Diffenthal, Vintage Radio listeners are in for a real treat.  The play will be broadcast on the Vintage Radio programme on Radio Today 1485AM at 7pm on 3 April 2003.  This play is dedicated to the memory of Tom Meehan, veteran Springbok Radio producer, writer, and actor who died on 2 January 2003 in Durban.  He was 87.

A special thanks to Toshiba, proud sponsors of Vintage Radio, for all of their support...the producer, Henry Diffenthal, and all of the wonderful actors involved in this production...the writer, Dorothy Carter, and Leslie Smith for dramatizing the production...MaryAnne, The Pumamouse, for hosting Vintage Radio on The Pumamouse Website...and Kevan Mardon for all the photos.

To end off, many people believed that English radio drama died in South Africa.  We have proven them wrong, and will continue to do so.  Another 12 new dramas are planned for this year, including the return of a very popular South African radio drama.
