| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATES FOR MARCH 2006 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Friends and Guests of The Pumamouse Website, The Pumamouse is back! As most of you probably already know, so many disappointments plagued me during 2005 that, by the end of the year, I was ready to pull the plug on The Pumamouse Website altogether. Then, in December, I thought that I had finally found a solution to all of my technical woes. I conducted a few tests, and my new system seemed to be working, albeit it very slowly. Well, early in January, I discovered yet another flaw in the system. It was the final straw for me. I had to admit defeat. I had to resolve myself to the fact that I could not edit and move the existing South African related webpages to a new domain. Instead, I would have to completely reconstruct the webpages at the new location, starting from scratch. And so, late in January 2006, I began to do just that. I had made the smallest measure of progress when, early in February, another development demanded my full attention. Something happened which forced me to re-evaluate my entire directive regarding the South African related webpages. So, my friends, now I must ask you to please forget everything you ever assumed or thought you knew about The Pumamouse Website, and allow me to set the facts before you for your consideration and fuller comprehension of the current situation. My name is MaryAnne, aka “The Pumamouse”. I am an American by birth and by residence. In December 2001, I created The Pumamouse Website. I constructed it to feature my varied hobbies and interests, such as my original manuscripts, musical compositions, recipes and needlework patterns. In January 2002, I added a section devoted to the topic of South African old-time radio. I did so mainly because a friend in South Africa, a gentleman named Frans Erasmus, had inspired my interest and involvement in the preservation of South African old-time radio recordings. From January 2002 through December 2003, I expanded the South African OTR section considerably, purchasing additional cyberspace as necessary, and I added other South African related sections to the website. During 2002 and 2003, Frans routinely contributed photos, sound files, and essays to the South African related sections of The Pumamouse Website, as did numerous South African old-time radio personalities and enthusiasts, worldwide. I was, and I still am, most grateful for all of their many contributions. In truth, I spent nearly every waking moment of those first two years building the South African related sections of the website, using all of the information, sound files, photos, etc, which I had found in the USA, and those which I had received from Frans, and from various radio and television enthusiasts and website guests. Admittedly, I neglected all of my other interests in the process. Other obligations then demanded Frans’ attention, but I continued to build and expand all sections of The Pumamouse Website throughout 2004 to the best of my ability, maintaining my focus primarily on the South African related sections and buying more cyberspace as necessary for the website’s continued expansion, until January 2005, when The Pumamouse Website had once again reached its maximum capacity. By January 2005, after three years of building The Pumamouse Website, and having purchased additional disc space several times during that three-year period, it became clear to me that all of the South African related material should be removed from The Pumamouse Website and instead offered at a separate website which was devoted solely to South African broadcasting. I initiated this plan with the expectation that Frans would eventually resume his routine contributions to the new website. There were technical difficulties and health issues which prevented my progress throughout 2005. However, I was resolved to achieve my directive, even if it meant starting again with a blank webpage and reconstructing every South African related webpage at a new location, a domain which I appropriately titled “The Pumamouse 4SA Website”. And so, I began the daunting task in January 2006. Early in February, I learned that Frans would not be resuming his former involvement, due to his other obligations. Although his interest in the preservation of South African OTR will undoubtedly continue, I was advised directly that his involvement in the website will not resume, and that I should not rely upon him for any routine contributions. As you might well imagine, this development caused me to pause and reassess the situation. Logically, the future of The Pumamouse Website is uncertain. Perhaps nothing lasts forever, but I shall endeavor to continue on the journey which I began in January 2001 for as long as I am able. At present, it is my intention to reconstruct all of the webpages which are related to South African broadcasting at The Pumamouse 4SA Website, and to then continue to expand upon them further with Frans’ blessing even if not his involvement. However, given the new circumstances, I shall work at a pace which allows me to also expand the original sections of The Pumamouse Website, all of which I have neglected for much too long. There will be one noticeable and swift consequence of the most recent developments. Due to my very limited knowledge regarding the history of South Africa, and more so, due to Frans’ regrettable unavailability to answer questions from website guests regarding the subject matter which it contains, I must discontinue the “South African Biltong And Braaivlies” section. The section is scheduled to permanently disappear from cyberspace on 15 March 2006. This is not a joke, so if you have any interest whatsoever in the “South African Biltong And Braaivleies” section, I suggest that you visit it before the fifteenth of March to experience it while you can. I do not anticipate the discontinuation of any other webpages during 2006. To the contrary, I am confident that there will be new webpages for you to explore at The Pumamouse Website and at The Pumamouse 4SA Website in the very near future, perhaps even as soon as next month, so please monitor this webpage for news and announcements. As I noted at the beginning of this update, The Pumamouse is back. I am ready for a new chapter of the story to begin…are you? Thank you for reading this update. Your kind interest to date and your continued patience are very much appreciated, as are your comments, suggestions, and requests. Sincerely, The Pumamouse (MaryAnne) 1 March 2006 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hello again! While I am working every day towards my goal of relocating the South African sections of The Pumamouse Website to a larger domain, and I am finally making some noteworthy progress, I am also attempting to keep current with all of my email correspondence. I apologize for any delays in my email replies which you may experience, but I am scurrying as quickly as I can. As previously announced, the “South African Biltong And Braaivlies” section has been discontinued. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience which this development may cause for my website guests. The good news is, I now have a little bit of "wiggle room" in which I can work here at The Pumamouse Website, and I have already begun to make good use of it...more details will follow later this month. Meanwhile...I was compelled to break my own rule this month and add a few webpages to one of the South African sections, here at The Pumamouse Website, despite the fact that I am currently rebuilding the entire section at the new location, The Pumamouse 4SA Website. Why did I break my own rule and pause in my directive, to create webpages which I shall have to rebuild at the new location? Well, I had "wiggle room", so I knew could add a new webpage or two without terrible technical consequences to The Pumamouse Website. More importantly, given the nature of webpages, I knew that I should add them sooner rather than later. So, here are the links for the new webpages (all available in the SA BROADCASTING AND "THE BACK ROOM BOYS" section): JOHN GRANT-SILVER IAN DIXON'S DIVERSE DEPICTIONS IDDD: CHAPTER ONE: THE STORY BEGINS IDDD: CHAPTER TWO: SAUCEPAN RADIOS I hope that you might enjoy these new additions. They will eventually be relocated to The Pumamouse 4SA Website, along with all of the other South African broadcasting related webpages. Now, if you will please excuse me, I must scurry back to work so that "eventually" happens more quickly! The Pumamouse (MaryAnne) March 2006 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATES FOR APRIL 2006 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Friends and Guests of The Pumamouse Website, March has come and gone, and Spring is in the air here in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The snow has begun to melt, and the lilacs are budding. It is a time of renewal. I suppose it is the perfect season for the work which I am doing to reorganize The Pumamouse Website and establish The Pumamouse 4SA Website. I am making steady progress towards my objective behind the scenes, which I am eager to continue. However, I must pause at the beginning of each month to catch my breath, and before I resume my task, I would first like to wish everyone a very blessed holiday season and a Happy Easter. On a personal note, I shall be baking my Grandma Philomena’s Gozadeal during the second week of April in honor of the holiday. If you have never sampled the traditional Italian Easter bread, and you would like to view the recipe, please visit the “FAMIGLIA & GOZADEAL” webpage located within the “TEA AND COMFORT” section. Regarding my progress with the relocation of the South African sections, I regret the fact that my guests are unable to view my work at The Pumamouse 4SA Website until it is completed, but I can assure you that the reconstruction project is going well. Several South African related subsections have now been fully reconstructed for inclusion at their new location, and I am satisfied with the results. In fact, I am very optimistic that the relocation process will be completed sooner rather than later. All of the revised webpages have a somewhat streamlined design, which I believe will increase the ease of navigation. The new design will definitely enable me to update and revise the existing webpages more easily and swiftly, which basically means that I can share more new treats with less frustration. And, speaking of sharing more treats, I must note, I am delighted to know with 100% certainty that I will finally be able to add more sound files and images to both of my websites, without the fear of them exploding! (I recently performed a private test by which I proved to myself the fact that web-space restrictions will no longer be an issue for me…squeak of joy!) Now, I had best scurry back to work…much more for The Pumamouse to do before the Big Bunny arrives! Please monitor this webpage throughout the month for news and updates, particularly mid-month. Oh, that reminds me… For those who may not have seen the last mid-month announcement, four new webpages related to South African Broadcasting were added to this website during March, some of which have since been updated for April, and more updates might occur to them during this month. (The four links are provided directly below this letter.) Thank you for your interest and continued support.
