| Welcome to The Pumamouse Website's "VINTAGE RADIO ON RADIO TODAY!" webpage. This webpage has been created to announce the long overdue return of Old-Time Radio broadcasts to South Africa's airwaves, and to provide a monthly schedule of the old-time radio productions which are due to air weekly as part of the new "VINTAGE RADIO" program on RADIO TODAY 1485AM, a community radio station, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The "VINTAGE RADIO" program will begin airing on RADIO TODAY on Thursday, 8 August 2002, from 7:00PM to 8:00PM, thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of Frans Erasmus, The Pumamouse Website's #1 Springbok Radio Authority. For many years, Frans has worked diligently to return South African OTR to the airwaves, and this time he has truly outdone himself. "VINTAGE RADIO" is initially scheduled to air weekly for a period of one full year! It is sincerely hoped that public interest might perpetuate the run of this marvelous program indefinitely. "VINTAGE RADIO" is being hosted by Hans Bac. Mr. Bac is no stranger to RADIO TODAY's listening audience. For some time, he has been the host of the weekly nostalgic music program "NOSTALGIC JUKEBOX" on RADIO TODAY that airs on Fridays from 8:00PM to 10:00PM. His passion for nostalgia is only one of the many contributing factors which marked him as a perfect host for "VINTAGE RADIO". Hans' friendly manner, personal insights, and overall professionalism are sure to make listening to South African Old-Time Radio rarities an extraordinary treat. Frans will be on hand in the RADIO TODAY studio during one broadcast each month to lend additional commentary and answer listener questions. Special Guest interviews are also anticipated as part of the "VINTAGE RADIO" program. Many of the recordings scheduled to air as part of the "VINTAGE RADIO" program were located in the USA and returned to South Africa by The Pumamouse to be enjoyed again by all those who miss them. If you are lucky enough to reside within the broadcast range of the RADIO TODAY transmission signal, make the most of your good fortune! Please be sure to tune in to 1485AM every Thursday night from 7:00PM to 8:00PM, beginning on 8 August 2002, and listen to the best of surviving South African Old-Time Radio productions. | IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT August 2003 was the final month of the first Vintage Radio season. We hope that you enjoyed the past year of nostalgic broadcasts. Thank you for listening. Special thanks must go to Frans Erasmus for all of his superb work on the Vintage Radio series, which included everything from procuring the funding from Toshiba, selecting the programs to be aired each month, and obtaining permission for the use of the material from the SABC, to remastering the recordings, researching the facts about them, providing the remastered shows and the information for rebroadcast, organizing several new productions, and even creating and mailing the monthly program schedules to the many loyal listeners who wrote and mailed letters to share their comments, since they do not have internet access and were unable to view the monthly program schedules listed here at The Pumamouse Website. Without Frans' tireless efforts, the past year of incomparable entertainment simply could never have happened. Dankie, Frans. Also, many thanks to our sponsor, Toshiba, for having the faith in sponsoring old-time radio in South Africa. This past year has proven that radio drama and comedy is missed by the thousands who heard our transmissions each week...an estimated 72,000 loyal listeners. We hope the national broadcaster has taken note of the popularity of the past year’s Vintage Radio broadcasts, and will repair the damage they caused by killing English radio drama in South Africa. SEASON TWO ANNOUNCEMENTS: |
| It is with sadness that I have to announce the end of Vintage Radio, on Radio Today 1485AM. With the relaunching of the new Radio Today on 1 July 2004, no agreement could be reached between myself as compiler of Vintage Radio & the powers at Radio Today Gold with respects to an appropriate broadcast time. I would like to take this opportunity and thank the following people & organizations for all the support & assistance that made Vintage Radio such a success. To Hans Bac, who very loyally hosted the programme from the beginning, to our sponsors, Toshiba & Postnet, to MaryAnne for all the support & help with the programmes, Henry Diffenthal who made our new productions possible and also for all the encouragement. To Kevan Mardon and all the actors in Durban, to the SABC who allowed for the rebroadcast of the Springbok Radio & English Service programmes, to the management & staff at Radio Today, to Gordon Mulholland, Annabel Linder, Colin Yorke, Paul Desmond and Bob Courtney for always promoting the show and to the station manager Naill Colley who fought bravely, lastly but not least to the many listeners of Vintage Radio, who without there support none of this would have been possible. I wish the new “Radio Today Gold” all of the best for the future & I hope they will build up the same togetherness that I have experienced in the last two years from the listeners of Radio Today.
